Today i would like to review the trial edition (valid for 40 days) of [tag]Kleptomania[/tag] 2.6. Besides the fact it has a rather interesting name, Kleptomania is a quite cool OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool that lets you copy from clipboard-unaware interfaces, such as databases, reports, application GUIs etc’. The real advantage of tools like Kleptomania, when compared to screen capture tools, is the ability to transform the copied area to RTF and text formats that you can easily copy to [tag]Office[/tag] docs.

The download from Softpedia wasn’t complicated. You can download the tool by using your favorite torrent client or by just right clicking the provided link and “Save As”.

The installation process was quite straightforward. After installing, Kleptomania will retrieve all your PC fonts. This is in order to be able to interpret texts written in those fonts. The process should take around 2-3 minutes, and then you are ready to go. Make sure you choose to place a Kleptomania icon on your desktop for easier access.

Let’s see it in action: I wanted to copy the clipboard unaware text (highkighted below). I first run Kleptomania (their cross-like icon appeared in my system tray. I clicked on the icon and selected “Select Text/Graphic Rectangle” (default). I then highlight the required text and click on Copy>> Text.

I then open my text editor and pasted the output:
