[tag]BitTorrent[/tag] Inc. , makers of the most renowned Torrent client, often used to download pirated movie copies, launched a new service aimed to rent Movies and TV shows.
The service offers films from Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, MGM and Lionsgate and episodes of TV shows such as “24” .
The target audience of the service is 15-35 years old men, who normally use BitTorrent clients to download pirated movie copies. BitTorrent believes that a third of their 135 million users are willing to pay for the service.
Prices are in my opinion quite reasonable (and similar to other competitors like ITunes). A 24 hours period rent will cost you 1.99$ for TV shows, 2.99$ for old movies and 3.99$ for new ones. Download speed might be an issue, but it looks like BitTorrent addressed that as well, and promised that a full-length movie should download in around a half hour.
The service is accessible at http://www.bittorrent.com/movies.
