Many of us heard about Ning.com an easy-to-use web platform that enables you to build social networking sites. After giving Ning a shot (and being extraordinarly interested about names
) i became curious on what “Ning” means. I was initially under the impression that it might be a japanese or chinese name, but decided to check it throughly.
As always, i headed towards Wikipedia first.
Well, “Ning” is defined as: “Ning can be a pinyin transliteration of a unisex Chinese name”. OK, as english is not my mother tongue, and i am not such an expert in Chinese dialects, i wasn’t sure what “pinyin” means. That’s where Babylon gets into the picture. The word “pinyin” is defined as “transliterated Chinese writing system using Latin characters”. So basically, “pinyin” is a chinese translation for latin languages readers
.
I wanted to double check so i googled it a bit and found this at YeahBaby.com.
Now i was sure, “Ning” is a beautiful chinese name that can be used for either a girl or a boy. Unfortnutaly it is not common in the western hemisphere.

Ning stands for Networking, cause that’s what the website focuses on.
