Next Google PageRank Update

From time to time i found myself wandering around some Webmaster forums trying to find out when the next Google PR (PageRank) update. I would like to share my finding with you guys. In case you have a new web site or blog this can be considered very important stuff.

A bit of history first. The PageRank was invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin from Stanford University. These two guys are now billionaires as they later on founded a small company named Google :) .

Google PageRank technology in a shoestring :)

Google runs a sort of voting system, in which web pages link to (or vote for) each other. The more incoming links your page has, the more important your page is. Well… not fully true. The Google world is not a democracy and as such, a link (vote) from an important page weighs more heavily than a link from a non-important page.

So what’s the PageRank algorithm?

PageRank measures the importance of a web page. The PR scale goes from 0 to 10(most important).

How can i know my web page PR?

The most popular way is to download and install the Google Toolbar . You can also check your rank in many PR check web sites. For example here.

Does my PageRank influence my position in Google Search results?

Yes. However, your position in Google search results is also influenced by page optimization factors. In plain words, by how relevant your page content is to the search term.

When PR gets updated?

Well that’s a good question. It gets updated every single day. However it gets visualized in the Google toolbar after a TBPR (Toolbar PageRank) Export. Normally, the export is executed every 3 months or so. Last TBPR Export occurred on January 25th, and it therefore expected that next TBPR Export will occur around April 15th.

How can i find what is my web page predicted PR?

You can use iwebtools.com PageRank predictor. Although the results are a bare estimation, it can help you to foresee your PageRank.

What i can do to increase my PageRank before the update?

Ask for incoming links from relevant pages. You might prefer to get incoming links from a higher PR page but that’s not always possible.

If you want to exchange links with this site, leave a comment on this post.

Good luck!

As I remember, The last PR update was on 18th Jan.

  2. feve says:

from what i’ve understood, the 25th was a RP & backlink (BL) export day, as well as an Algorithm update. i’m not sure how easy it is to predict the exact date of the next update, as things happen over a period of days and the algorithm changes. i would expect it to happen in April, though. and i’ve read elsewhere that the 15th of April is the estimated “date”.

It depends Barry. Too many links and you could be viewed as a link farm, but a blogroll and a few links to sites are fine.

Do you have an update for this article. By that I mean when was the toolbar update between the time this articles was written and now. If it is every three months there should have been one and there should be another one on about a month right?

I think we must be in the middle of a pagerank update as my thailand blog’s pagerank toolbar has gone grey a couple times lately. I checked other known PR ranked sites and them too – same deal. Let’s see how the chips fall this time!

And i am also waiting for the next google Page Rank update. So that i can expect some traffic for my website

  21. Roman says:

did it get updated already? someone knows why they are taking so long?
On the other side, if REAL PR is updated daily, it should influence google search results also daily, shouldn’t it?
I mean, search results surely work with the REAL PR, not the toolbar-PR.

    Am I wrong?

  22. rizwan says:

informative… hopefullly i will be pr5 in next update.. ;)

  23. Dan says:

Google Toolbar updated around April / May 2007, it really is only a number and doesn’t represent current PR. None the less, there should be another one happening soon.

  24. i agree, many webmasters love the idea of having the TBPR but this causes confusion as it can show you different results then what your PR really is, i hope google get rid of TBPR but i would say they wouldent as its a great marketing tool for google

——————————————————————————————— It is good to know that, when You submit Your website to web directories, You should change anchor TAG or Title of Your website from time to time. When Google find too meni links to site with same title from external websites (directories for example) – may qualify your site as SPAM.
