Here’s an extra cool trick that will help you modify the default new mail notification sound for all Outlook versions.
- Go to Start || Settings || Control panel
- Click Sounds and Audio Devices
- Open the Sounds tab and in the Program Events highlight New Mail Notification
- Use the Browse button to select your sound of choice
- Click OK
TIP: Note that in addition to the sounds provided by Windows, you can upload additional sound files (in *.wav format) to C:\Windows\Media (or other folder in Windows) and then select them as your mail notification sound.

Hi,
I have tried all the above steps and also changed the registry settings as per the Microsoft Kb articles. But still I am dealing with the same problem. And one important thing here, when I scroll down in the above mentioned screen and locate “Default Beep” and assign it a .wav file, then I do get the sound when the new email arrives. It is only when I try to set a .wav file from the “New Mail Notification”, it wont work. I can’t hear any sound.
Please can anyone help me with this..
