How to search in Wikipedia from the Google toolbar ?

I like the Google toolbar. I have been using it since its early days. I like it because unlike 99% of the toolbars it is not spyware, and because it lets me google from every web page.

In the last months i have been leveraging the Google toolbar in order to search not only the Google index but also other popular web sites.

In this post i would like to show you how you can search in Wikipedia from your Google toolbar!

Please follow the instructions below for setting up this cool feature in Firefox:

  • Open you browser and click the Search button in your Google Toolbar.

  • Click Add Search Type
  • In the Add button to the Google Toolbar box type Wikipedia and click Go
  • Click the Add to Toolbar button at the right hand side of the Wikipedia section

  • Good. You just added Wikipedia to the list of Searchable web sites.
  • In order to search in Wikipedia, type your search term in the Google search box, then click on Search and Select Wikipedia, then click Enter. Voila, you are now searching Wikipedia from the Google toolbar :)

Tip: Please make sure you set back you reselect the Google Search option in your toolbar when you are done searching Wikipedia, otherwise by default, all your Google Toolbar searches will be made in Wikipedia.

If you use Internet Explorer, Proceed as following: From your Google Toolbar, click Settings then Options. Then open the Buttons tab and click Add. Now proceed as explained in the fourth step above.
