How to display your Windows System Information with Bginfo ?

Sometimes, before installing new software or upgrading your hardware, you need to find out some information (CPU, RAM Memory, Network Card type, available disk space etc’)  on your Windows Vista (or previous Windows versions) system. Instead of delving into the different options of your Windows control panel you can use an extra cool utility named BGinfo.

BGinfo is a lightweight and reliable utility (made by SYSinternals – now a Microsoft company), that when executed, creates a Bitmap image containing your system detail that you can easily embed on your desktop (see below).

Installation Process

  • Dowlnload the BGinfo utility.
  • Unzip the BGinfo archive and clickBGInfo.exe
  • Use the Fields list in order to customize the list of system properties that you would like to have displayed on the desktop.

  • Click Apply
  • Your Windows system information will be displayed on the desktop.

Advanced Tip: By placing BGinfo in your Startup folder you can ensure that the system information being displayed will be updated each time you boot your PC.

More on advanced usage of BGInfo can be found at Microsoft Technet
