The Windows Vista (as well as other previous Windows versions) operating system normally hides certain system files and folders, this in order to prevent users from accidentally changing the content of those files and rendering the operating system useless.
Here is how you can show those hidden files. Make sure you don’t change the content of those files unless you are completely sure that you need to. In any case, please make a backup of the file or folder before changing its content.
- Open the Window Explorer (Right click Start then Explore)
- Click Organize
- Click Folder and Search options
- Navigate to the View tab (If you use the Classic menu you can access via Control Panel || Folder Options)
- Check Show hidden files and folders
- Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
- Uncheck Hide protected operating system files
- Click Apply to all folders
- Click OK
