Did you encounter a situation in which you tried run a movie in your PC and seem not be able to hear the sound or display the video? If so, you probably didn’t have the required codec package installed on your PC. If you find yourself nodding while reading this, there is a nifty utility i would like to introduce you to.
Codec Installer is a simple freeware utility that helps you to manage your PC installed codecs (AVI, MPEG, XVID, DIVX, K Lite, MP4 and so forth) and helps to identify what are the codecs required to play an audio or video file, making easy for you to locate and download them. Instructions on how to operate CodecInstaller and an overview to The its feature set can be found here.
CodeC Installer is easy to install, and runs on Windows Vista, XP and 2000.Note that it requires the .NET 2.0 framework to run (Installed by default with the Vista Operating systems). If you are running other operating systems, you might use the Add/Remove Programs menu to verify that the .NET framework 2.0 is installed.
Enjoy!

Hi there
whenever I playback avi files in Media Player I get a full description of the audio detail printed in green at the top left of the screen. I’ve ‘googled’ and discovered it may be due to a plugin for screen/OSD?? programmes, or linked to a codec I may be using.
How do I find the codecs to switch this (OSD?) function off ?
Apparently someone had the same problem using Cole2K codecs – but I don’t have that installed
Any help would be really apreciated
