Hi,
I believe that the only site with code, for a working online now icon, which works in IE and other browsers, and behaves as an online now icon (instead of just being there all the time) is this one:

The code on the above page will show the custom icon in ALL page locations where the default icon would otherwise show up.
Friends and Comment spaces as well.
None of the others do that. They either do nothing, or they just show an icon which is always there.
