One of our readers sent me a note a few days ago asking whether based on our previous coverage of FIFA 2008, i could estimate the FIFA 2009 system requirements.

If i rely on last year’s course of events, i foresee that the FIFA 2009 Demo will be released sometimes during August, and then we will be able to publish the official FIFA 2009 system requirements for PC. Until then you can look into the FIFA 2008 system requirements, that will provide a rough estimation of what it’ll take to run FIFA 09. I suggest that you give special attention to the supported video cards, as that was the main system compatibility issue in previous versions.

FIFA 2008 is on the shelves. In order to celebrate the event :), I decided to compile the PC version's system requirements and provide with some practical advice on how to determine whether your PC can run FIFA.

Wandering around the gaming forums, I noted a bit of confusion about the FIFA 2008 system requirements.

Here are the minimum system requirements for running FIFA 08:

Operating Systems: Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows Vista (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows NT 4.0 are not supported)

RAM: 512 MB

Video Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible 3D accelerated 64 MB video card or equivalent . Here’s the list of supported chipsets (note that laptop versions of those chipsets were not tested and thus not officially supported):

NVIDIA GeForce3
NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti200/500
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200/4400/4600/4800
NVIDIA GeForce FX series
NVIDIA GeForce 6xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 7xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 8xxx series
ATI Radeon 8500
ATI Radeon 9xxx series
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
ATI Radeon X300
ATI Radeon X550
ATI Radeon X600
ATI Radeon X700
ATI Radeon X800/850
ATI Radeon X1300
ATI Radeon X1600
ATI Radeon X1800
ATI Radeon X1900
ATI Radeon X1950
ATI HD 2900 XT
Intel 915
Intel 945/950
Intel GMA 3000
S3 Graphics DeltaChrome S4
S3 Graphics Chrome S27

Hard Disk: 3.5 -4 GB free hard disk space (depending on the version)

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

DirectX 9.0c installed

MS compatible mouse

Keyboard

If you are not sure about whether your PC can run FIFA 08, i suggest that you:

Download and install the free FIFA 08 PC demo. Check if it runs ok. The most common issue you might have is with the Video card, so check it carefully.

Install and run the system requirements testing utility and verify that your PC can handle FIFA 08.

November 6th is the launch day of the PC version of highly successful XBoX 360 third person shooter, Gears of War. Official system requirements have not been published yet, but a rough estimation based on BioShock requirements can be provided. Read on for the details.

This might be one of the best years PC gamers ever had. After the release of masterpieces BioShock, World in Conflict and the upcoming release of Clive Barker’s Jericho, we were informed that Gear of Wars, the highly successful third person shooter made by Epic, will be released on November 6th on our beloved PC platform.

Gears of War is a Games for Windows title. Therefore, although the Gears of War official system requirements haven’t been published yet, I feel we can provide a good estimate based on the BioShock system requirements.

Here’s my estimation for the minimum system requirements, which i will be updating once official word will be available:

CPU – Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single

RAM - 1GB

Video Card – Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).

5-6 GB free Hard disk space
Sound Card – 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Don’t forget that as we approach November, you’ll be able to ensure that your PC can run Gears of War by using the gaming system requirements test utility.

Enjoy!

Fellow blogger Madhur Kapoor provides you a few reasons why you must have the PES 2008 demo.

Since i download it during last week, i have been making lots of fun with the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2008 demo. In general, the PC PES 2008 demo is very attractive and well made, and the only thing that annoys me a bit is that the exhibition games are no longer than 5 minutes. Marketing wise, that’s perfectly ok, as Konami still want you to buy the full version , and not play the full demo for ever .

I thought of putting together a review of the PES 2008 demo, however, yesterday I spotted over a very thorough PES 2008 review made by fellow blogger Madhur Kapoor. Madhur’s PES 2008 review is well worth reading before you download the PES 2008 PC demo.

Enjoy PES!

Codemasters, makers of Clive Barker's Jericho, the much anticipated first person shooter announced its availability for downloading as of yesterday.

Codemasters, makers of much expected First Person Shooter Clive Barker’s Jericho, announced the availability of the PC demo version that can be donwloaded from the game’s web site.

Demo files weights 1.05 GB and should download in around 1.5 hours if you have a broadband connection.

You’ll play Captain Devin Ross, who leads the Jericho squad, a team of 7 members, each possessing paranormal abilities. Capt. Ross most interesting feature is that he can take over other members bodies and talents. I read over at the Jericho web site that in the demo you’ll be leading only 3 of your squad members, as rest of the squad is presumed lost following a deadly attack.

The full version will be on the shelves on 10/23 (will also be available for XBOX 360 and Playstation 3).

Sounds quite cool. I am going to start downloading

Adding a background to your Pictures Album.

========== A few readers have contacted me and mentioned that they can no longer change the background of your My Photos page on MySpace 1.0. That’s correct. MySpace doesn’t allow you to change your pictures page background any more. For more CSS code for your MySpace page, please visit our MySpace codes page ==========

Question:

How can I add a background to “View my Pictures?”

Answer:

Changing the background of your MySpace profile is very common and is done to nearly everyone’s profile. However, this code below will change ONLY the background of the View my Pictures page. Follow the simple instructions to do this:

Login to Myspace.com.

Click Edit Profile.

Copy and Paste the following codes into the picture’s caption.

Add background color

<body style=”background-color:COLOR HERE;”>

Add a background image

<body background=”URL TO IMAGE “>

It is advisable to use tinypic.com to get a shortened link for the image.

Notes: COLOR HERE – is the html color code that you can grab from our HTML colors code chart.. URL TO IMAGE is your image url that you can grab from your preferred image hosting service (Photobucket, FlickR, ImageShack to name a few) in which you are hosting your background picture.

The much expected Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 PC demo is finally available. Read on for the donwload link and for the minimum system requirements for running PES. Enjoy!

Konami, makers of Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), announced the availability of the much anticipated PC demo of PES 2008.
Demo weights 1.1 GB, and can be downloaded from gamershell.com.
Download time depends on your Internet connection speeds but expect it to take over an hour.

Konami also published the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 minimum system requirements. These differ from recommended PES 2008 system requirements that i published i while ago. Here they are:

Minimum Pro Evolution Soccer 7 (2008) system requirements:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Intel Pentium IV 1.4GHz or equivalent processor
RAM: 512 MB RAM
Disk Space: 4.0GB free hard disk space
4x DVD-ROM Drive
Video Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible video card. 64MB Pixel Shader 1.1 (NVIDIA GeForce 3 or
ATI Radeon 8500 video card or better)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
Others: DirectX 9.0c or higher (included on Disc)
Multiplayer: TCP/IP 192 kbps or higher
Windows compatible keyboard
640 x 480 monitor resolution

Looks like some people are having issues when installing PES 2008. I will look into this later on today, however my wild guess is that the root cause of those issues is the fact that they try to run PES on PCs with video cards which are not DirectX 9.0c compatible.

Enjoy!
